Writing a holiday song with Steven Taetz

Just in time for the holidays, “SNOW ANGELS“ Steven Taetz’s new original Christmas love song is available now on all platforms.

A dreamy ballad made to conjure an idyllic winter wonderland where Steven Taetz sings about the wish to live in the magical moment forever. The nostalgic production by JUNO-winning producer Daniel Ledwell (Good Lovelies, Jenn Grant) brings a romantic flair with rich strings, guitars, and lush 1960’s inspired backing vocals by Jenn Grant, Kim Harris, and Lakita Wiggins. Recorded in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia at Ledwell’s studio, you can hear the Canadiana roots clearly in this new Christmas carol.

“Snow Angels” showcases Steven Taetz as both singer and songwriter, and makes the perfect compliment to his 2017 EP Cool Yule, as well as 2023’s Late Bloom.

We talked about:

  • The notion of constantly reinventing your brand and style as you evolve as an artist
  • Finding your own voice when co-writing
  • Christmas songs that don’t sound like Christmas songs
  • Embracing nostalgia in your holiday song
  • Playing around with chromaticism
  • Having restraint with showcasing “tasty bits” in your song
